But a working journalist who just wrote two for 2007, I have to say it's a good exercise in stepping back and assessing relatively recent events a bit. Sort of a second draft of history, as it were. But you're right, they're overdone and cliche. The worst are the ones written too early. The cutoff for PopPhoto's best camera of 2007 competition couldn't include what I think might have won it, the Nikon D3 released in November. I just saw one on upcoming music artists who hope to break out in 2008. At least it's fresh content and not rehashing old stuff. OTOH, I think I saw the goofiest year-in-review on CNN this morning. They aired "2007's Best Implosions" and showed video of one building crashing down after another. I like the year-in-preview stories.
